    Job Description

Lead and transform end-to-end operations in Kenya from Head Office to field execution, embedding strong cost discipline, operational controls, and accountability. Drive a measurable reduction in cost base and sustained productivity gains through hands-on leadership, rigorous performance management, and continuous improvement.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Own end-to-end Kenya operations performance, ensuring consistent execution, service levels, and operational governance across all sites and routes/branches.
    • Deliver a cost-reduction and productivity program: baseline the cost base, identify structural and quick-win savings, execute initiatives, and track benefits realization with clear ownership.
    • Build an execution-led operating cadence daily/weekly/monthly: KPIs, visual management, problem-solving routines, and corrective action follow-through to improve reliability and accountability.
    • Strengthen operational controls and compliance: SOPs, delegations, inventory/cash/asset controls, vendor controls, and audit-ready documentation; reduce leakage, waste, and operational risk.
    • Re-design processes and organization for efficiency: simplify workflows, optimize staffing and rosters, improve throughput and cycle times, and standardize best practices across the network.
    • Lead supply chain and logistics optimization: demand planning discipline, procurement governance, vendor performance management, fleet/route optimization, and inventory accuracy to reduce working capital and cost-to-serve.
    • Drive performance of branch/field operations through direct site engagement, coaching, and rapid issue resolution; set clear targets and hold teams accountable for delivery.
    • Partner with Finance to embed cost visibility and discipline: unit economics, budget ownership, variance reviews, capex prioritization, and ROI-based decision-making.
    • Lead a turnaround/change agenda: challenge legacy ways of working, manage resistance, communicate clear expectations, and build a high-performance operations culture.
    • Develop operational talent and succession: recruit/upgrade key roles where needed, set performance contracts, and build capability in Lean/CI, controls, and frontline leadership.
    • Implement 'Performance Management the Alliad Way' by setting KPIs for direct reports when applicable, conduct regular reviews, identify training requirements and provide a coaching, mentoring and supportive role.
    • Ensures adherence to quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements in Food Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environment.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field required.
    • MBA or Master's in Operations/Supply Chain/Management preferred.
    • Relevant professional membership/certification in supply chain/operations e.g., CIPS, APICS/ASCM is an advantage.
    • 12+ years of progressive operations leadership experience within multinational/international organizations, including multi-site/branch operations.
    • Proven track record leading major cost reduction and productivity programs, with measurable results and sustained control discipline.
    • Experience in turnaround, transformation, or scaling operations in a complex environment; demonstrated ability to lead HO-to-field execution.
    • End-to-end operations leadership: service delivery, branch/site management, operational governance, and performance management systems.
    • Strong cost management and unit economics: budgeting, cost-to-serve, productivity metrics, benefits realization, and variance management.
    • Operational controls and risk management: SOPs, delegations, inventory/cash/asset controls, vendor governance, and audit readiness.
    • Supply chain, logistics, and procurement optimization: planning, sourcing governance, vendor management, fleet/route optimization, and inventory accuracy.
    • Continuous improvement toolset Lean/Kaizen/Six Sigma, structured problem solving A3/5-Why, and data-driven decision-making.

Prove You Can Cut Costs Without Breaking Field Operations

This is a top-management turnaround role, so the hiring panel will screen for evidence of multi-site cost reduction and control discipline, not just strategic vision. They want to see numbers you moved, teams you held accountable, and how you kept service levels intact while tightening the operation.

    1. Quantify your cost-reduction wins: On your CV, replace phrases like 'led cost optimization' with the actual baseline, the savings achieved, and the timeframe. For example, 'Reduced cost-to-serve by 18% across 12 branches in 18 months through route optimization and vendor renegotiation.' Hiring managers for this role will probe whether your savings were structural or one-off, so be ready to explain how you sustained the gains.

    2. Show multi-site, HO-to-field execution: The job demands someone who can translate head office strategy into daily branch performance. Prepare stories that show how you set KPIs, ran visual management boards, and followed through on corrective actions at site level. Be specific about how many sites, how many staff, and what improved as a result.

    3. Bring your Lean and problem-solving toolkit: They explicitly mention Lean/Kaizen/Six Sigma and A3/5-Why. Have one or two examples where you used these tools to solve a real operational problem, including the before-and-after metrics. If you have certifications like CIPS or APICS/ASCM, highlight them early because they signal credibility in supply chain and operations governance.

    4. Prepare for turnaround and change-resistance questions: This role is about challenging legacy ways of working. Expect questions on how you managed resistance, communicated expectations, and built a high-performance culture. Use a STAR format to describe a time you inherited a underperforming operation and turned it around, including how you handled pushback from long-serving staff.

    5. Demonstrate financial acumen beyond operations: You will partner with Finance on unit economics, budgets, and ROI. Brush up on cost-to-serve, variance analysis, and capex prioritization. In interviews, show you can read a P&L and explain how operational decisions impact working capital and margins.

    6. Show you can develop talent and succession: The posting mentions recruiting/upgrading key roles and building capability in Lean/CI and frontline leadership. Prepare examples of how you mentored operations managers, set performance contracts, and built a pipeline of successors. Interviewers will want to know you can leave the operation stronger than you found it.

    7. Align with compliance and safety expectations: They mention Food Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environment. Even if your background is not in food, show you understand regulated environments and can embed audit-ready documentation and controls. Have a story about how you improved compliance or reduced operational risk.

    8. Use the application link and tailor your CV: The posting directs you to apply via alliad.darwinbox.com. Before you submit, tailor your CV to mirror the language in the job description—cost discipline, operational controls, supply chain optimization, and performance management. Use their terms like 'benefits realization' and 'unit economics' to show you speak their language.
