    Master the Claims Follow-Up Loop

Claims officers are the bridge between the hospital and insurers. Your ability to track, query, and resubmit claims directly affects the hospital's cash flow. Hiring managers will probe how you handle rejections and whether you can spot revenue leakage before it happens.

    1. Know the SHA and private insurer rules cold: Study the Social Health Authority (SHA) guidelines and common private insurance requirements. Be ready to explain how you verify eligibility and authorizations, and what documentation you check before submitting a claim.

    2. Show your reconciliation skills on your CV: Use numbers to demonstrate your experience with daily collections, billing discrepancies, and claims tracking. For example, mention the volume of claims you processed or the percentage of rejections you reduced.

    3. Prepare a story about a tricky claim: Think of a time you resolved a rejected or queried claim. Walk through how you identified the issue, coordinated with other departments, and got it resubmitted successfully. This shows your follow-up and problem-solving abilities.

    4. Highlight your hospital experience: If you have worked in a hospital setting, emphasize it. If not, talk about your familiarity with medical terminology, billing codes, and the patient care workflow.

    5. Brush up on billing software and Excel: Many hospitals use electronic medical records and billing systems. Be ready to discuss your proficiency with such tools, and mention your ability to generate reports and reconcile data in Excel.

    6. Demonstrate integrity and confidentiality: This role handles sensitive patient and financial data. Give examples of how you have maintained confidentiality and acted with integrity in past roles, especially when handling cash or patient information.

    7. Understand the revenue cycle: Be prepared to explain how claims processing fits into the larger revenue cycle, from patient registration to final payment. Show that you know how underbilling or missing documentation can hurt the hospital's finances.

    8. Ask smart questions in the interview: Ask about the hospital's current claims rejection rate, the team structure, and how they handle SHA claims. This shows you are thinking about the role's real challenges and are ready to contribute from day one.
