    Job Description

    MEDS is undertaking a project for the construction of a warehousing facility for handling Health Products and Technologies (HPTs) and an office block in Kisumu County. The Clerk of Works reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for ensuring that construction work meets project plans, specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. This position is offered on a fixed-term contract of 12 months, with a possibility of extension.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise and monitor works on construction site to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications and quality standards
    • Inspect and verify materials delivered and used on site for conformity to specifications and quality standards
    • Monitor workmanship across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing works
    • Maintain detailed site records, including site daily diaries, defect registers and instruction book for architect and consultants
    • Act as a liaison between architect, project manager, consultants, contractors and Management, communicating instructions and resolving issues for smooth project execution
    • Report deviations, defects and non-conformities promptly and follow up on execution of corrective and preventive measures
    • Ensure that design and construction work comply with statutory and regulatory requirements for handling of HPTs, including but not limited to, Good Manufacturing Practices GMP, Good Storage Practices GSP, Good Distribution Practices GDP as well as health and safety requirements
    • Identify potential problems proactively, advise on technical issues and help in solution development to support timely delivery of the project within budget and quality expectations
    • Prepare and submit progress reports to Management on work progress, quality and site conditions.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field from a recognized institution
    • Professional certification or membership with a relevant body e.g., Institute of Clerk of Works, Engineers Board of Kenya, or equivalent
    • Minimum five 5 years work experience in supervision of large-scale construction projects
    • Thorough understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities
    • Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, statutory and regulatory requirements with emphasis on storage for HPTs
    • Familiarity with Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements on construction sites
    • Ability to monitor construction quality, materials, and workmanship against approved standards
    • Technical competencies: Record keeping, Report writing, Supervision of construction projects for pharma-grade warehouses, MS Office and knowledge of project management software MS Project Primavera are added advantages
    • Behavioural attributes; High level of integrity, strong communication and interpersonal skills, keen attention to detail and commitment of quality, ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
