Prove You Can Source, Screen and Keep Records Clean

HR Assistant roles at fast-moving e-commerce companies get hundreds of applications, and most CVs say the same things about being organized and people-oriented. What separates shortlisted candidates is evidence that they have actually sourced candidates, run interviews, and kept recruitment trackers accurate under pressure.

    1. Lead with recruitment numbers: On your CV, replace vague duties with concrete figures such as the number of roles you supported, candidates you screened per week, or interviews you coordinated. Hiring managers at Jiji Kenya want to see that you can handle volume without losing track of candidates. Even one year of experience can produce measurable results if you frame it properly.

    2. Show your sourcing channels: Name the platforms you have used to find candidates, whether LinkedIn, BrighterMonday, Fuzu, social media groups, or referrals. The posting specifically mentions creative sourcing, so describe one unconventional channel you tried and what it delivered. This tells the recruiter you can think beyond job boards.

    3. Prepare a screening scenario: Expect a question like how you would screen 50 applications for a sales role in two days. Walk through your shortlisting criteria, how you spot red flags, and how you communicate with unsuccessful candidates. Structure your answer around speed, fairness, and clear record-keeping.

    4. Bring proof of tracker discipline: If you have used Excel, Google Sheets, or an ATS to maintain candidate pipelines, say so and describe how you kept data clean. Mention how you followed up with candidates and updated statuses daily. Recruitment trackers are the backbone of this role, and interviewers probe for accuracy.

    5. Prepare for onboarding questions: The role supports onboarding and offboarding, so think through the documents and steps involved, such as contracts, ID copies, NSSF, NHIF, and orientation schedules. Be ready to explain how you would make a new hire's first week smooth while keeping HR records compliant.

    6. Demonstrate calm in a fast-paced setting: Jiji Kenya operates in a high-energy e-commerce environment, so interviewers will test how you prioritize when several urgent tasks land at once. Use a real example of juggling interviews, employee queries, and documentation, and explain how you decided what came first.

    7. Ask smart questions about HR exposure: Since the posting promises hands-on exposure across HR areas, ask which projects you would support in the first six months. Inquire about the team structure and how recruitment goals are measured. Thoughtful questions show you are serious about building an HR career, not just filling a seat.

    8. Close with your learning mindset: The requirements emphasize willingness to learn and take ownership, so end the interview by giving a brief example of a time you taught yourself a new HR tool or process. Mention that you are open to feedback and eager to grow within the company. This leaves a strong impression of someone who will add value from day one.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
