Field Interviewing: Show You Can Handle Data and People

This role is about collecting accurate data while building trust with respondents in Nairobi's communities. Hiring managers will look for proof you can follow protocols, use tech, and stay organized under pressure.

    1. Highlight your survey CTO experience: If you've used Survey CTO or similar tools, mention it clearly on your CV. Describe a specific project where you collected data electronically, including the device used and the number of interviews completed.

    2. Show your familiarity with the study areas: Since previous experience in Korogocho and Viwandani is an advantage, if you have it, detail your work there. Even if not, show you understand the communities and the importance of respectful engagement.

    3. Emphasize your attention to detail: Data quality is critical. Give examples of how you've ensured accuracy in past roles, such as double-checking entries or following data validation rules.

    4. Prepare for the training commitment: The posting stresses full attendance at training. Be ready to confirm your availability for the entire training and data collection period without conflicts.

    5. Practice informed consent conversations: You'll need to explain the study clearly. Practice a simple, respectful explanation of consent in both English and Swahili to show you can communicate effectively.

    6. Demonstrate your safeguarding awareness: Mention any training or experience you have with safeguarding vulnerable groups. This shows you understand the ethical responsibilities of the role.

    7. Be ready for daily debriefs: These meetings are for reporting progress and issues. Show that you can communicate clearly and constructively, both in writing and verbally.

    8. Show your reliability with equipment: As custodian of APHRC's tablets, you need to be trustworthy. Highlight any experience handling company equipment responsibly, such as returning devices in good condition.
