Show Evidence of Delivering Projects on Time and Budget

This role sits at the heart of KenGen's project delivery, so your application must prove you can track performance, manage contracts, and turn data into decisions. Hiring managers will look for concrete examples of how you've used M&E frameworks to keep projects on track.

    1. Quantify your M&E impact: On your CV, give numbers that show the scale of projects you've monitored, the size of budgets you've overseen, and the percentage of milestones met on time. For example, 'Oversaw M&E for a portfolio of 15 projects worth KES 2B, achieving 95% on-time delivery.'

    2. Master the tools they use: Be ready to discuss your proficiency with project management software like MS Project, Primavera, or dashboards like Power BI. Mention any experience with data analysis tools like Excel, SPSS, or STATA, as these are key for KPI tracking and reporting.

    3. Prepare for behavioral questions on stakeholder management: Expect questions about how you've handled difficult stakeholders, resolved contract disputes, or communicated bad news to executives. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers with real examples.

    4. Show your understanding of the energy sector: KenGen is a major power producer, so demonstrate awareness of Kenya's energy landscape, key projects, and regulatory environment. Mention any experience with power generation, transmission, or infrastructure projects.

    5. Highlight your leadership experience: Since this is a managerial role, emphasize your experience leading teams, mentoring staff, and driving a high-performance culture. Give examples of how you've developed your team and improved their capabilities.

    6. Be ready to discuss evaluation frameworks: You'll likely be asked about your experience with baseline studies, mid-term reviews, and impact assessments. Prepare to explain how you've designed and implemented these evaluations, and how you've used findings to improve project outcomes.

    7. Demonstrate your knowledge of contract management: This role involves overseeing contract performance, claims, and variations. Be ready to talk about your experience with contract administration, compliance, and dispute resolution, and how you've protected organizational interests.

    8. Show commitment to continuous improvement: KenGen values efficiency and value-for-money. Share examples of how you've used value engineering, cost optimization, or process improvements to save money or improve project delivery.
