How to Apply: Send your updated resume and letter of application (ONLY) quoting “People and Culture Administrator” on the subject line to recruitment@strathmore.edu by 30th August 2026.
This role is the backbone of the People and Culture function at Strathmore University. The hiring team wants someone who can handle recruitment, contracts, onboarding, and separations without dropping a ball. Your application should prove you've done this end-to-end, not just talked about it.
1. Map your CV to the employee lifecycle: Structure your CV to show clear experience in recruitment, contract management, onboarding, and exit processes. Use bullet points that mirror the responsibilities listed in the ad. For example, under a past role, write 'Managed end-to-end recruitment for 5 departments, reducing time-to-hire by 20%.'
2. Highlight your IHRM membership: Since the job requires membership to IHRM, make sure it's prominent on your CV. If you're not yet a member, state your progress towards it. This is a non-negotiable for many HR roles in Kenya.
3. Prepare for behavioral questions on employee relations: Expect questions like 'Tell me about a time you handled a difficult employee separation.' Have a STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) story ready that shows your tact and professionalism.
4. Show your knowledge of labor laws: Be ready to discuss Kenya's Employment Act, especially around contracts, termination, and employee rights. You might be asked to give an example of how you've applied these laws in practice.
5. Demonstrate your analytical skills: The role involves collecting and analyzing employee data. Mention any experience you have with HRIS or Excel, and give an example of how you used data to improve an HR process.
6. Emphasize your communication skills: As a People and Culture Administrator, you'll be the first point of contact for many staff queries. Show that you can communicate clearly and empathetically, both in writing and verbally. Your cover letter should be a sample of your best communication.
7. Understand the university context: Strathmore University has a unique culture. Research their values and mission, and align your application to them. Mention how you can support their people strategy in an academic environment.
8. Prepare thoughtful questions: At the end of the interview, ask about the team structure, the biggest HR challenges they face, or how they measure success in this role. This shows you're genuinely interested and strategic.
