    Job Description

Master Power Systems Limited (MPSL) is seeking an experienced Project Commercial Head to provide independent commercial review, control and advisory support across its Solar, Substation and designated large MEP projects. The role focuses on project profitability, commercial risk, variations and claims, invoicing, collections and cash flow, working alongside Project Managers and the Head of Contracts to protect margins and recover contractual entitlements. This is a commercial leadership and counter-check role, not a site-based project management position.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Produce monthly project and portfolio profitability forecasts.
    • Track revenue, cost, margin, progress and programme against approved budgets.
    • Identify cost overruns, margin erosion, FX exposure, delays and commercial risks.
    • Counter-check project budgets against tender costs.
    • Monitor cost-to-complete and project cost reporting in Orion/ERP.
    • Identify entitlement from variations, additional scope, delays, disruption, escalation, FX and client/utility events.
    • Maintain an entitlement register covering value identified, notified, submitted, certified and at risk.
    • Quantify variations, claims, prolongation, disruption and delay costs.
    • Work with the Head of Contracts to support claims with commercial evidence.
    • Track uncertified variations and instructed work.
    • Support final accounts and recovery from subcontractors, suppliers and insurers.
    • Ensure milestones and valuations are converted into timely claims and invoices.
    • Track certification, invoicing and collections against contractual terms.
    • Monitor debtors, retention, advances and bonds.
    • Prepare monthly project cash-flow forecasts.
    • Ensure supplier and subcontractor commitments are aligned with client cash inflows.
    • Escalate overdue payments and cash-flow risks.
    • Maintain a quantified commercial risk register for live projects.
    • Monitor exposure to liquidated damages, performance guarantees, FX, equipment pricing and payment risks.
    • Track contractual milestones, notice periods, payment terms, retention and price-variation provisions.
    • Review project instructions, drawing changes and client events for commercial impact.
    • Review import duties, taxes and landed equipment costs where applicable.
    • Understand the commercial characteristics of Solar EPC, Substation EPC, and Large MEP projects.

    • Electrical circuit technology (design, drawing)
    • Systems design
    • Team leadership

Master the Commercial Side of EPC Projects

This role is all about protecting margins and recovering entitlements on complex energy projects. Hiring managers will probe your ability to quantify variations, manage cash flow, and handle claims with precision.

    1. Show your numbers: On your CV, highlight specific examples where you improved project profitability or recovered claims. Use numbers to show impact, like 'recovered 15% of contract value through claims'.

    2. Know the contract: Be ready to discuss FIDIC or other standard contracts. Understand clauses on variations, delays, and payment terms.

    3. Understand the tech: Even though this is commercial, you need to grasp solar and substation basics. Show you know what milestones matter and how equipment procurement affects cash flow.

    4. Talk about risk: Prepare examples of how you identified and mitigated commercial risks on past projects. Mention FX exposure, liquidated damages, and performance guarantees.

    5. Use ERP experience: If you've used Orion or other ERPs, highlight it. If not, show you're quick to learn new systems.

    6. Communication is key: You'll work with project managers, contracts teams, and clients. Show you can explain complex commercial issues clearly.

    7. Be ready for the counter-check: This is a control role. Expect questions on how you challenge budgets and forecasts without alienating the team.

    8. Show leadership: Even though it's not site-based, you'll lead commercial discussions. Give examples of leading cross-functional teams.
