    Job Description

    Rongo University is a leading University in the region, whose mission is to provide high quality education through teaching, research, community service and nurturing innovative graduates. Rongo University (RU), formerly Rongo University College, was awarded Charter by H.E. Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of the Republic of Kenya on 7th October 2016. This is a Full Time Accountant position in the Finance / Accounting / Audit field.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, books of accounts, and accounting schedules in accordance with applicable accounting standards and university financial regulations.
    2. Coordinate preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and expenditure plans for the university and respective departments.
    3. Monitor budget implementation and provide periodic budget performance reports to management.
    4. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
    5. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoicing, reconciliations, and payment processing.
    6. Ensure timely banking, cash management, and reconciliation of bank accounts and other financial records.
    7. Supervise revenue collection, fee management, and financial transactions to ensure accountability and transparency.
    8. Ensure compliance with Public Finance Management regulations, tax laws, audit requirements, and university financial policies.
    9. Coordinate internal and external audit activities and implement audit recommendations where applicable.
    10. Maintain proper control systems to safeguard university assets, funds, and financial information.
    11. Process payroll inputs, statutory deductions, and related financial obligations in collaboration with relevant departments.
    12. Provide financial analysis and advisory support to management for effective decision-making and resource allocation.
    13. Prepare financial reports for grants, donor-funded projects, and special university programs where required.
    14. Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff and support capacity-building initiatives within the finance department.
    15. Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and accuracy in handling financial data and records.
    16. Participate in finance, procurement, and administrative committees as assigned.
    17. Support implementation and maintenance of computerized accounting and financial management systems.
    18. Perform any other duties assigned by the Chief Finance Officer, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, or University Management in line with the university mandate.

    Required Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's Degree from a recognized institution in a relevant field such as Accounting, Finance or Business Administration;
    2. CPA (K) or its equivalent;
    3. At least twelve (12) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which must have been Assistant Accountant I or equivalent;
    4. Registered member of ICPAK or its equivalent and in good standing;
    5. Training in Public relations;
    6. Computer literacy;
    7. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
    8. A Master's Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
