    Job Description

    Rongo University is a leading University in the region, whose mission is to provide high quality education through teaching, research, community service and nurturing innovative graduates. Rongo University (RU), formerly Rongo University College, was awarded Charter by H.E. Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of the Republic of Kenya on 7th October 2016.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Assist in maintaining accurate books of accounts, financial records, and accounting documents in accordance with university financial policies and accounting standards.
    2. Prepare payment vouchers, journal entries, invoices, receipts, and other financial documentation for processing and verification.
    3. Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
    4. Assist in budget preparation, expenditure tracking, and budget monitoring activities.
    5. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions and ensure timely reconciliation of financial records.
    6. Carry out bank reconciliations, cashbook management, and monitoring of university bank transactions.
    7. Assist in revenue collection, fee reconciliation, and monitoring of income streams within the university.
    8. Ensure proper filing, custody, and maintenance of financial records and supporting documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
    9. Support payroll processing and verification of staff claims, allowances, and statutory deductions where required.
    10. Assist in implementation and maintenance of internal financial controls to safeguard university assets and resources.
    11. Participate in internal and external audit exercises and provide required financial information and documentation.
    12. Utilize computerized accounting systems and financial management software for efficient financial operations.
    13. Ensure compliance with Public Finance Management regulations, tax laws, university financial policies, and accounting procedures.
    14. Provide support in preparation of financial reports for grants, donor-funded projects, and special university programs where applicable.
    15. Liaise with banks, suppliers, students, and other stakeholders on routine financial and accounting matters.
    16. Participate in finance department meetings, committees, and administrative activities as assigned.
    17. Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism in handling financial information and records.
    18. Perform any other duties assigned by the Senior Accountant, Chief Finance Officer, or University Management in line with the university mandate.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree from a recognized institution in a relevant field such as Accounting, Finance or Business Administration;
    • CPA (K) or its equivalent;
    • At least six (6) years relevant work experience;
    • Registered member of ICPAK or its equivalent in good standing;
    • Computer literacy; and
    • Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
