Show Your Editing Reel Before You Talk

For a content creation internship, your portfolio speaks louder than your CV. Hiring managers want to see that you can shoot, edit, and package content that holds attention on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

    1. Build a focused reel: Put together a 60-second reel that shows your editing rhythm, color grading, and ability to tell a story. Keep it tight and put it at the top of your portfolio.

    2. Name your tools: Be ready to talk about your workflow in Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro. Mention shortcuts, plugins, and how you organize your timeline.

    3. Show platform awareness: Explain how you'd format the same video for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts. Mention aspect ratios, caption styles, and hook strategies.

    4. Bring fresh ideas: Prepare two or three content concepts for a brand you admire. Show that you've researched their audience and can propose something on-brand.

    5. Prove you can collaborate: Share an example of a time you took feedback on a creative project and improved the result. Creative teams value people who can iterate without ego.

    6. Organize like a pro: Talk about how you name files, back up projects, and keep assets tidy. Production chaos is a real problem, and calm organization stands out.

    7. Know the trends: Be ready to discuss a current trend on TikTok or Instagram and how you'd adapt it for a brand. Show that you consume content critically, not just passively.

    8. Ask smart questions: In the interview, ask about the team's current content pillars, what tools they use, and what a successful intern looks like after three months. It shows you're thinking about impact.
