Show Strategic Finance Leadership, Not Just Technical Accounting

This Head of Finance role sits at the intersection of governance, investment strategy, and board reporting. Hiring managers will probe whether you can move beyond routine accounting into risk management, resource optimization, and leadership that shapes company direction.

    1. Lead with your leadership track record: Highlight your five years in management with concrete examples of teams you have built, mentored, and appraised. Quantify outcomes like reduced audit findings, improved reporting turnaround, or cost savings from your financial controls.

    2. Prove your grip on governance and risk: Expect questions on how you have identified risks and implemented controls. Prepare a story that shows a specific risk you mitigated, the control you designed, and the measurable impact on the organization.

    3. Show fluency with board-level reporting: This role reports to the Managing Director and Board, so demonstrate your ability to translate complex financials into clear, decision-ready summaries. Bring an example of a budget or performance report you presented to senior leadership.

    4. Demonstrate ERP and systems thinking: With ERP knowledge listed, be ready to discuss how you have used systems like SAP, Oracle, or Odoo to improve financial processes. Mention any system implementation or upgrade you have led or supported.

    5. Prepare for donor-funded project questions: The role explicitly covers externally funded projects, so be ready to explain how you have managed grant accounting, donor compliance, and separate financial reporting for such funds.

    6. Align your CV with the required qualifications: Ensure your CV clearly shows your CPA-K, ACCA, or CFA certification, ICPAK membership in good standing, and your eight years of experience with five in management. Use the same keywords as the posting to pass any initial screening.

    7. Practice behavioral answers for leadership and teamwork: Expect questions on how you have handled underperforming staff, resolved conflicts, or motivated your team. Use the STAR method to structure your responses with real examples.

    8. Tailor your application to the firm's consulting context: Since PKF is a professional services firm, emphasize your ability to advise internal stakeholders and maintain the highest ethical standards. Mention any experience with external audits or client-facing financial advisory work.
