Show Strategic HR Leadership Beyond the Day-to-Day

This Head of HR role is not just about payroll and discipline — the hiring panel wants to see you can align human capital with corporate strategy, manage union relations, and sit at the board table. Your application must prove you have operated at senior management level, not just handled HR transactions.

    1. Lead with your strategic impact: In your CV and cover letter, highlight specific examples where you aligned HR strategy with business goals — e.g., restructuring, workforce planning, or culture change. Quantify results where possible, such as reduced staff turnover or improved performance metrics.

    2. Show union and labour relations depth: This posting explicitly mentions managing relations with unions, the Ministry of Labour, and FKE. Prepare a concise example of how you navigated a union negotiation or grievance, and what the outcome was. This is a differentiator.

    3. Prove your CHRP-K and IHRM standing: Ensure your membership numbers and certifications are clearly visible on your CV. If you have additional training in labour relations or organizational development, list it prominently — it is an added advantage.

    4. Demonstrate board-level communication: The role involves preparing board papers and minutes for the HR and Legal Committee. Be ready to discuss how you have presented to boards or executive committees, and how you translate HR data into strategic recommendations.

    5. Highlight HRIS and performance management expertise: The posting asks for an efficient HR information system and performance management system. Give examples of systems you have implemented or improved, and how they drove decision-making.

    6. Show administrative oversight breadth: This role also covers administration — mail, security, vehicles, front office. Prepare to talk about how you have managed such functions cost-effectively, perhaps by sharing a budget optimization story.

    7. Prepare for competency-based questions: The posting lists competencies like 'Builds Relationships', 'Solves Problems', and 'Manages Change'. Expect behavioural questions around these. Have STAR stories ready for each, drawn from your senior HR experience.

    8. Tailor your application to the consulting context: PKF is a professional services firm. Emphasize your ability to handle HR in a fast-paced, client-driven environment, and your understanding of professional services talent needs.
