How to Apply: Interested and qualified candidates should apply online via the Umma University careers portal at jobs.umma.ac.ke.

    Show Your Academic Track Record

For a senior academic role like this, the hiring committee will scrutinize your publication history, supervision record, and service contributions. Your application must present these clearly and convincingly.

    1. Tailor your CV to academic promotion criteria: Structure your CV to mirror the requirements: education, publications, supervision, teaching experience, and service. Use clear headings and quantify where possible, e.g., 'Supervised 5 PhD students to completion'.

    2. Highlight your publications strategically: List your refereed journal articles, books, and book chapters in a dedicated section. For each, include the full citation and, if possible, a link or DOI. Emphasize publications that align with the Arabic language and literature field.

    3. Detail your supervision experience: Provide a table or list of post-graduate students you have supervised, including their thesis titles and completion dates. This demonstrates your capacity to guide research.

    4. Showcase your teaching effectiveness: Include student evaluations, teaching awards, or innovative course designs. Mention any curriculum development you have led.

    5. Document your service and community engagement: List committees you have served on, both within the university and externally, such as BOG or SMC memberships. This shows your commitment to institutional and community development.

    6. Prepare a compelling teaching and research statement: Even if not requested, have a one-page statement ready that outlines your teaching philosophy and research agenda. This can be a differentiator.

    7. Ensure your application is error-free: Proofread your CV and cover letter meticulously. Academic hiring committees notice typos and formatting inconsistencies.

    8. Follow up professionally: After submitting your application, consider a polite follow-up email after two weeks to express continued interest and inquire about the timeline.
