Show Your Content Engine Before the Interview
This role lives and dies by your ability to create scroll-stopping content and turn comments into applications. Hiring managers at a technical college want proof you can speak to students, not just post pretty pictures.
1. Build a mini portfolio: Before applying, put together 3–5 sample posts, reels, or story concepts tailored to a technical college. Show variety: a course promo, a student testimonial, and a tips post. This proves you understand the audience and the platform.
2. Know the platforms deeply: Be ready to explain how you'd use TikTok and Instagram Reels differently for student recruitment. Mention specific tactics like using trending sounds, hashtags, and timing your posts for when students are online.
3. Quantify your wins: If you've managed any social media before, bring numbers: follower growth, engagement rate, or leads generated. Even a small personal project counts if you can show the before and after.
4. Prepare a 30-day plan: Draft a simple content calendar for the first month. Include a mix of posts, stories, and live sessions. This shows you're proactive and can hit the ground running.
5. Practice your copywriting: Write two sample captions for a course like 'ICT' or 'Digital Marketing' — one for Instagram, one for Facebook. Make them punchy, clear, and with a call to action.
6. Understand the admissions funnel: Be ready to talk about how you'd handle enquiries from WhatsApp or comments. Mention how you'd follow up, qualify leads, and hand them to the admissions team.
7. Show you can measure: Explain which metrics you'd track weekly (reach, engagement, enquiries) and how you'd report them. A simple spreadsheet or Google Data Studio mock-up would impress.
8. Ask smart questions: In the interview, ask about the college's current social media challenges, their target student profile, and what tools they use. This shows you're already thinking like their marketer.
