Show Lab Safety Discipline On Paper Before You Walk Into the Lab

Lab technician roles get flooded with vague 'I love science' claims. Hiring teams for this kind of post want proof you can set up equipment, handle reagents, and keep safety logs without being told twice.

    1. Certify your basics: Make sure your Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology is clearly listed with the institution and year. If you have any safety training (like first aid or chemical handling), put it in a dedicated skills section — it signals you take lab hazards seriously.

    2. Show your hands-on side: Describe specific lab tasks you've done — preparing solutions, calibrating equipment, or managing stock. Use action verbs like 'set up', 'maintained', 'enforced'. For example: 'Set up titration stations for 30 students during practical exams.'

    3. Know CBET buzzwords: Since CBET is mentioned, learn what Competency-Based Education and Training means for labs. Mention any experience with trainee assessments or competency checklists — even if it was informal.

    4. Prove your computer literacy: Don't just say 'computer literate'. List the tools you know — Excel for stock records, Word for reports, maybe a lab inventory system. If you've used any, say so.

    5. Prepare for safety questions: Expect to be asked how you'd handle a chemical spill or a broken beaker. Have a clear step-by-step answer ready. Mention waste disposal rules and the importance of PPE.

    6. Highlight teamwork with trainers: The role is about supporting trainers and trainees. Give an example of when you helped a teacher or student in a lab setting — maybe during a demo or a difficult experiment.

    7. Get your paperwork ready: The posting requires clearance from KRA, HELB, EACC, DCI, and CRB. Start these processes early — they can take weeks. Having them ready shows you're serious and organized.

    8. Tailor your CV to the polytechnic: Kitale National Polytechnic is a TVET institution. Emphasize any experience with vocational training or practical skills development. If you've worked with CBET before, put it in the first third of your CV.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
