Show Your Hands-On Lab Skills Before the Interview

This role is about keeping ICT labs running and supporting both staff and trainees. Hiring managers will want proof you can troubleshoot hardware and networks under pressure, not just list certifications.

    1. Tailor your CV to lab support: Highlight any experience setting up or maintaining computer labs, even if it was part of a class project or volunteer work. Mention specific hardware, software, and network configurations you've handled.

    2. Prepare for practical troubleshooting questions: Expect to be asked how you'd diagnose a faulty network connection or a computer that won't boot. Walk through your logical steps clearly, showing you can work methodically.

    3. Bring your CompTIA or Cisco knowledge to the fore: If you have certifications, list them prominently. If not, be ready to discuss how you've applied networking and hardware concepts in real or simulated environments.

    4. Show you understand the educational context: Mention any experience supporting learners or trainers, even if it's from a different setting. Emphasize your patience and ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.

    5. Demonstrate your security and backup awareness: Be ready to talk about how you'd implement basic security measures and data backups in a lab environment. Give examples of how you've protected data or systems before.

    6. Prepare for integrity and clearance questions: Since the role requires Chapter Six clearances, be ready to discuss your integrity and any steps you've taken to ensure compliance. Have your documents ready.

    7. Ask about the CBET system: Show you've researched Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) and how ICT supports it. Asking a thoughtful question about the training model demonstrates genuine interest.

    8. Emphasize your ability to work independently: Give examples of times you've resolved ICT issues without supervision, showing you can manage your time and prioritize support requests effectively.
