Master the Lab and the Classroom

This role sits at the intersection of food science and teaching. You'll need to show you can run a lab safely while also guiding trainees through hands-on processes.

    1. Show your hands-on lab skills: In your CV and interview, give concrete examples of food processing, preservation, and quality control tasks you've performed. Mention specific equipment you've used and techniques you're proficient in.

    2. Highlight HACCP and GMP knowledge: Be ready to explain how you've applied food safety standards in practice. Give an example of a time you identified a hazard or ensured compliance.

    3. Demonstrate your teaching ability: Even if you haven't taught formally, show how you've mentored or trained others. Prepare a short demo or outline of how you'd teach a practical session.

    4. Emphasize attention to detail: In lab work, precision is non-negotiable. Share an example where your accuracy prevented an error or improved a process.

    5. Prepare for Chapter Six clearance: Get ahead on your KRA, HELB, EACC, DCI, and CRB certificates. Mention your readiness in the interview.

    6. Understand CBET curriculum: Familiarize yourself with Competency-Based Education and Training. Show how you can support trainees in achieving specific competencies.

    7. Show your organizational skills: Inventory management is a key duty. Talk about how you've maintained supplies and equipment in previous roles.

    8. Communicate your passion: Let your enthusiasm for food technology and education come through. Hiring managers want someone who will inspire trainees.
