Show Your Archival Precision in the Interview

This role is about protecting institutional memory. The hiring team will probe how carefully you handle records, digitize materials, and follow retention rules. Bring concrete examples of past archival or library work.

    1. Highlight hands-on digitization: If you have scanned, photographed, or converted physical records to digital formats, describe the tools and steps you used. Mention any software like OCR or digital asset management systems.

    2. Know your records lifecycle: Be ready to explain appraisal, retention schedules, and disposal procedures. Give an example of how you decided what to keep and what to discard.

    3. Show your KLA membership: If you are a member of the Kenya Library Association or another professional body, mention it early. It shows commitment to professional standards.

    4. Prepare for practical questions: Expect scenario questions like 'How would you handle a fragile historical document?' Think about preservation techniques, handling, and storage.

    5. Emphasize attention to detail: Archives require meticulous organization. Share an example where your attention to detail prevented a records error.

    6. Discuss digital content management: The role involves uploading theses and past papers. Talk about your experience with repositories or content management systems.

    7. Understand the university context: Research Kabarak University's values and its library services. Tailor your answers to show you understand academic archives.

    8. Ask smart questions: Inquire about the university's current digitization projects or challenges in records management. It shows genuine interest and strategic thinking.
