    Job Description

    Kitui County is located approximately 170 km southeast of Nairobi and covers an area of about 30,496 km². It borders Machakos and Makueni counties to the west, Tana River County to the east, Taita-Taveta County to the south, and Embu and Tharaka-Nithi counties to the north. The County Government is committed to delivering efficient public services and promoting sustainable socio-economic development.

    The County Government of Kitui invites qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Principal Administration Officer. The successful candidate will play a critical leadership role in coordinating administrative functions, implementing policies, and ensuring efficient service delivery across departments.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Initiate and implement administrative policies, strategies, procedures, and programs.
    2. Manage and supervise general administrative functions within assigned departments.
    3. Coordinate and facilitate maintenance of county infrastructure and facilities.
    4. Oversee transport management and logistical operations.
    5. Provide leadership and mentorship to subordinate administrative staff.
    6. Ensure compliance with public service regulations and county policies.
    7. Promote efficiency, accountability, and performance-based service delivery.

    Required Qualifications

    Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

    Option 1: Degree Pathway

    1. Served in the grade of Chief Administration Officer for a minimum of three (3) years.
    2. Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration/Management, Community Development, or any other Social Science discipline plus a Management Course Certificate lasting at least four (4) weeks, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

    Option 2: Diploma Pathway

    1. Diploma in Public Administration, Business Administration/Management, Community Development, or any other Social Science discipline plus a Supervisory Management Course or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

    Additional Mandatory Requirements:

    1. Certificate in Computer Application Skills from a recognized institution.
    2. Demonstrated merit, integrity, and strong performance record in public service.
