Show Leadership That Moves a TVET Institution Forward
This role is about steering a whole institution, not just teaching. Hiring panels will probe how you've handled budgets, teams, and regulatory compliance in the past. Bring proof of concrete wins, not just titles.
1. Quantify your leadership impact: On your CV, show numbers: size of teams managed, budgets overseen, student enrollment growth, or accreditation outcomes. For example, 'Led a team of 25 trainers and managed a KES 50M annual budget.'
2. Know TVETA inside out: Be ready to discuss specific TVETA standards, the accreditation process, and how you've maintained compliance. Review the latest TVETA guidelines before the interview.
3. Show your CBET expertise: Competency-based education is central. Give examples of how you've designed or delivered CBET curricula, and how you've assessed competencies.
4. Prepare a strategic vision: Come with a clear 90-day plan for the institution. What would you assess first? How would you improve industry linkages? This shows you're already thinking like a Principal.
5. Highlight partnership wins: TVET institutions thrive on industry ties. Share specific examples of partnerships you've built with companies or government bodies and the outcomes.
6. Address financial stewardship: Be ready to talk about budgeting, procurement, and resource allocation. Have a story about how you managed tight resources or improved efficiency.
7. Show your people skills: Staff and student welfare are key. Talk about how you've handled staff development, conflict resolution, or student discipline in the past.
8. Practice report writing: You'll be preparing reports for management and council. Bring samples of reports you've written, and be prepared to explain how you make them clear and actionable.
