    Job Description

As Senior Associate, Strategic Accounts, you'll help grow VIDA's portfolio across climate, energy and related sectors — building relationships with key donors, partners and clients, and strengthening our ability to win new work.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead generation and market intelligence: Identify new opportunities using tools such as DevelopmentAid, and develop them through conversations with donors, partners and clients; qualify leads against needs, budgets and VIDA's strategic priorities; track programmes, funding streams, donor priorities and competitor activity to spot gaps in the market.
    • Partnerships: Map and engage potential partners — engineering firms, consultancies and other organisations across climate, energy and resilience; prepare outreach materials and maintain relationships with existing and prospective partners; support partnership agreements and joint proposals.
    • Proposals and bid support: Write and coordinate technical and financial proposals for the World Bank, African Development Bank and other key donors and clients; work with our Data Solutions and Product teams to gather technical inputs; shape proposals and partnerships to position VIDA strongly for new opportunities.
    • Pipeline and materials: Keep HubSpot accurate so opportunities are visible to the wider BD team; report on proposal and tender outcomes, and capture lessons for future bids; produce and maintain BD materials — decks, one-pagers, case studies — reflecting our current portfolio and project successes.

    Required Qualifications

    • At least 2 years' professional experience with direct exposure to business development, partnerships or consulting.
    • A track record of contributing to or winning new opportunities through tenders, direct procurement or partners, and familiarity with international development funding and procurement processes.
    • A good understanding of climate topics, and the confidence to discuss them with clients and partners.
    • Experience engaging donors, clients, consultants and senior stakeholders — with the communication and influencing skills to position VIDA in key conversations.
    • Comfortable working across different geographies and cultural contexts.
    • A Master's degree in a relevant field (international development, environmental science, climate studies, energy, geography, public policy, economics or similar) is preferred but not essential with sufficient relevant experience.

    Winning Donor-Funded Proposals

This role sits at the intersection of climate, energy, and international development funding. To stand out, you need to show you can navigate donor priorities and turn them into winning bids.

    1. Show your track record: Highlight specific examples where you contributed to winning tenders or partnerships. Quantify your impact if possible, such as the value of contracts won or the number of partnerships secured.

    2. Understand the donor landscape: Be ready to discuss the World Bank, AfDB, and other key donors. Familiarize yourself with their current priorities in climate and energy, and be prepared to articulate how VIDA's work aligns with them.

    3. Master proposal writing: Emphasize your experience in writing technical and financial proposals. Bring samples or be ready to walk through your process for structuring a compelling bid.

    4. Leverage your network: Talk about your existing relationships with partners, consultants, and clients in the climate and energy space. Show how you can leverage these to open doors for VIDA.

    5. Use data and tools: Demonstrate your proficiency with tools like DevelopmentAid and HubSpot. Show how you use data to identify opportunities and track pipeline progress.

    6. Communicate with confidence: This role requires engaging senior stakeholders. Prepare to discuss how you've influenced decision-makers and navigated complex conversations.

    7. Be ready for a remote interview: Since the team is spread across Europe and Africa, expect a virtual interview. Ensure your tech setup is reliable and practice clear communication.

    8. Show cultural agility: Highlight your experience working across geographies and cultures. Provide examples of how you've adapted your approach to different contexts.
