    KAVI – Institute of Clinical Research is a premier research centre within the University of Nairobi, specializing in vaccine development, epidemiological studies, immunology, and clinical trials aimed at improving public health outcomes in Kenya and beyond.


    KAVI-ICR is seeking a highly experienced Senior Research Clinical Officer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of vaccine trials and epidemiological studies. The role involves managing clinical operations, ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards, mentoring junior staff, and maintaining the highest level of data and participant safety oversight.


    The successful candidate will bring strong clinical experience, advanced knowledge in clinical research, and a proven record of supporting trials from initiation to close-out.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Lead and coordinate day-to-day clinical activities for vaccine trials and epidemiological research projects.
    2. Conduct participant screening, enrolment, clinical assessment, and follow-up in accordance with approved study protocols.
    3. Ensure strict compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subjects Protection standards.
    4. Manage clinical workflows including sample collection, documentation, reporting, and adverse event monitoring.
    5. Train, mentor, and supervise clinical research staff to ensure adherence to protocols and high-quality clinical conduct.
    6. Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical and research documentation.
    7. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including investigators, data managers, laboratory staff, and community partners.
    8. Support development and review of study protocols, SOPs, manuals, and clinical tools.
    9. Participate in study monitoring, audits, and quality assurance activities.
    10. Ensure participant safety, ethical compliance, and confidentiality at all times.

    Required Qualifications

    • Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
    • Registered with the Clinical Officers Council (Kenya) with a valid practice license.
    • More than 7 years of post-registration clinical practice experience.
    • At least 5 years of verifiable experience conducting and coordinating vaccine clinical trials and epidemiological studies from initiation to completion.
    • Valid GCP and Human Subjects Protection Training certificates.
    • Strong skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection and basic analysis.
    • Proven ability to provide mentorship and team leadership in clinical research settings.
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
