Show Your Technical Competencies Before the Interview

This is a competitive government internship for recent ICT graduates. Hiring managers will probe your hands-on skills, not just your degree. Prepare to demonstrate real projects and problem-solving.

    1. Polish your CV for the screen: Highlight your degree classification, graduation year, and any relevant projects or coursework. Use clear headings and quantify achievements where possible. For example, 'Built a web app with 500+ users' shows impact.

    2. Prepare a portfolio of your work: If you have coding projects, AI models, or system designs, put them on GitHub or a personal site. Be ready to walk through your code and decisions. This proves you can apply what you learned.

    3. Brush up on core ICT areas: Expect questions on programming, databases, networking, and software development. Review your university notes and practice common interview problems. For AI roles, know basic machine learning concepts.

    4. Understand the government context: This is a government program, so be ready to discuss how ICT can improve public services. Read about digital transformation initiatives in Kenya. Show you care about national development.

    5. Practice behavioral questions: They will ask about teamwork, leadership, and why you want this internship. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers. Keep examples concise and relevant.

    6. Verify your eligibility documents: Ensure your degree certificate or university letter is ready and clearly states your classification. If you're waiting for graduation, get the signed reference letter now. Missing documents can disqualify you.

    7. Network with current or past interns: Reach out on LinkedIn to learn about the program's culture and expectations. Ask what skills they use daily. This gives you insider tips and shows initiative.

    8. Prepare thoughtful questions to ask: At the end of the interview, ask about mentorship opportunities, project assignments, or career growth. This shows you're serious about the internship and eager to learn.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
