    Job Description

We are looking for a pragmatic Web Engineer to join our engineering team and contribute to the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of production web applications. You will translate designs and requirements into responsive, reliable, and maintainable web applications; integrate frontend applications with backend services; investigate and resolve real-world software issues; write and maintain automated tests; and collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and other stakeholders. We value pragmatic engineering over theoretical perfection.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Translate designs and product requirements into responsive, accessible, and user-friendly web applications.
    • Develop clean, maintainable frontend code using JavaScript/ES6+, TypeScript, HTML, CSS/SCSS, and relevant UI libraries or frameworks.
    • Read, understand, debug, and safely modify existing codebases.
    • Integrate frontend applications with backend services and RESTful APIs, and where applicable, GraphQL.
    • Develop and maintain automated tests to improve reliability and prevent regressions.
    • Use browser developer tools and other engineering tools to investigate errors, network requests, performance issues, and application failures.
    • Troubleshoot issues systematically, identify root causes, and implement reliable solutions.
    • Contribute to code reviews, CI/CD workflows, technical discussions, planning, and knowledge sharing.
    • Collaborate with product managers, designers, backend engineers, QA, and other stakeholders to deliver work within agreed timelines.
    • Take ownership of assigned work from understanding the requirement through implementation, testing, review, deployment, and follow-up.

    Required Qualifications

    • Strong practical understanding of JavaScript/ES6+ and modern web development.
    • Strong understanding of semantic HTML, CSS, responsive layouts, and browser behavior.
    • Practical experience with SCSS or similar CSS preprocessing approaches.
    • Understanding of component-based frontend development, state management, forms, and web application architecture.
    • Experience consuming RESTful APIs and understanding how frontend applications communicate with backend services.
    • Working knowledge of automated testing and tools such as Jest, Cypress, Playwright, Jasmine, or equivalent.
    • Comfortable working with Git, including branches, commits, pull/merge requests, and code reviews.
    • Working knowledge of relational databases and basic SQL.
    • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate unfamiliar problems and identify root causes.
    • Familiarity with Linux and common software-development environments.
    • Basic understanding of web security concepts such as authentication, authorization, session management, and role-based access control.
    • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical colleagues.
    • Experience with Angular, React, Vue, or another modern frontend framework.
    • Experience with TypeScript in production applications.
    • Experience with Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, or another UI framework/library.
    • Experience with GraphQL.
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
    • Familiarity with Docker and containerized development environments.
    • Familiarity with Node.js or backend development concepts.
    • Experience working in healthcare, financial services, enterprise software, or another domain with complex business requirements.
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, a science-related field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • Demonstrated practical experience in web development and programming through employment, internships, personal projects, open-source contributions, academic work.

Show Your Web Engineering Depth Beyond the Buzzwords

This role at Savannah Informatics sits at the intersection of healthcare and software, so hiring managers will probe how you handle complex business logic, data integrity, and security. They want engineers who can debug under pressure and ship maintainable code, not just demo a portfolio.

    1. Prove your debugging story: Prepare a detailed example of a tricky production bug you solved. Walk through your systematic process: how you isolated the root cause, what tools you used (browser dev tools, logs, profilers), and how you verified the fix. Healthcare systems demand that kind of rigor.

    2. Show your testing mindset: Highlight your experience with automated testing tools like Jest, Cypress, or Playwright. If you have a project with good test coverage, mention it. Explain how you decide what to test and how you prevent regressions in a fast-moving codebase.

    3. Demonstrate API integration skills: Be ready to discuss how you've consumed RESTful APIs in real projects. Talk about handling authentication, error states, and performance. If you've worked with GraphQL, mention that too — it's a plus.

    4. Emphasize your component architecture sense: Describe how you structure frontend components for reusability and maintainability. Mention state management patterns you've used (Redux, Context, etc.) and how you keep forms and data flows predictable.

    5. Talk about collaboration and communication: This role works with product managers, designers, and backend engineers. Give an example of a time you explained a technical trade-off to a non-technical stakeholder. Clear communication is key in a healthcare context where requirements can be complex.

    6. Highlight your CI/CD exposure: If you've worked with pipelines, automated deployments, or Docker, make sure it's on your CV. Even basic familiarity shows you care about the full lifecycle, not just writing code.

    7. Prepare for security questions: Healthcare data is sensitive. Brush up on authentication, authorization, session management, and role-based access control. Be ready to discuss how you've handled these in past projects.

    8. Show your learning agility: The tech stack is broad — from TypeScript to GraphQL to Docker. Emphasize your ability to pick up new tools quickly. Give an example of a technology you learned on the job and how you applied it successfully.
