This role is for a lending leader who can grow a branch while keeping credit risk in check. Hiring managers will probe how you've balanced aggressive growth with portfolio quality, and how you've built teams from scratch.
1. Quantify your portfolio performance: On your CV, show numbers that matter: portfolio size, growth rate, delinquency rates, and recovery rates. For example, 'Grew logbook loan portfolio by 40% in 2 years while keeping PAR > 30 days below 5%.'
2. Detail your credit committee experience: Describe your role on credit approval committees. Mention the types of loans you reviewed, your decision-making criteria, and how you balanced risk and business needs.
3. Show your team-building track record: Give specific examples of how you recruited, trained, and motivated sales agents or field teams. Include retention rates and performance improvements.
4. Prepare for behavioral questions: Expect questions like 'Tell me about a time you turned around a struggling branch' or 'How do you handle a credit officer who consistently misses targets?' Use the STAR method.
5. Understand the logbook loan market: Be ready to discuss the competitive landscape, typical loan-to-value ratios, and how you've managed collateral valuation and recovery in the past.
6. Highlight your launch experience: If you've started a branch or built a team from scratch, walk through the steps you took: market analysis, hiring, training, setting up processes, and hitting first milestones.
7. Show your risk management mindset: Talk about how you've used credit scoring, field visits, and other tools to minimize defaults. Give a concrete example of a time you tightened lending criteria and improved portfolio quality.
8. Ask smart questions: At the end of the interview, ask about the branch's current portfolio size, growth targets, and the biggest challenges they face. This shows you're already thinking like a branch manager.
