Master the Art of Selling Hospitality Experiences

In this role, you'll be the face of the hotel to corporate clients and event planners. Your ability to build relationships and close deals will directly impact revenue. Here's how to prepare for a role that demands both strategic thinking and hands-on sales execution.

    1. Quantify your sales wins: When updating your CV, don't just list responsibilities. Use numbers to show your impact, like 'increased corporate bookings by 30% in one year' or 'secured 15 new event contracts worth KES 5M.' This gives the hiring manager concrete proof of your sales prowess.

    2. Showcase your network: This role relies heavily on relationships. Highlight any existing connections with travel agencies, tour operators, or event planners. Mention specific partnerships you've cultivated and how they benefited your previous employer.

    3. Prepare for scenario questions: Expect questions like 'How would you approach a new corporate client?' or 'Describe a time you turned a lead into a loyal account.' Practice your answers using the STAR method, focusing on your strategic approach and measurable outcomes.

    4. Demonstrate CRM fluency: Be ready to discuss your experience with CRM tools like Salesforce or HubSpot. Talk about how you use data to track leads, forecast revenue, and identify upselling opportunities. If you've used a specific system, mention it by name.

    5. Understand the hotel's market: Research the hotel's target segments—corporate, leisure, events—and think about how you'd attract each. Show that you understand the local market dynamics and can position the hotel competitively.

    6. Highlight your negotiation skills: Negotiation is key in this role. Share examples where you successfully negotiated contracts that were profitable for your employer while satisfying the client. Emphasize your ability to create win-win scenarios.

    7. Show strategic thinking: This is a senior role, so you'll be expected to contribute to the overall sales strategy. Be ready to discuss how you'd identify new revenue streams or improve occupancy rates. Show that you think beyond day-to-day sales.

    8. Communicate your energy: The job description asks for a 'professional, energetic and customer-centric approach.' In your interview, let your enthusiasm for hospitality shine. Show that you're genuinely passionate about delivering exceptional guest experiences.
