Show Commercial Impact in Your Brand Portfolio

Hiring managers for FMCG brand roles want to see numbers, not just campaign lists. They'll probe how you grew market share, managed budgets, and turned consumer insights into profitable decisions.

    1. Quantify your wins: On your CV, use metrics like market share growth, sales uplift, or ROI for each brand you managed. For example, 'Increased brand share by 2 points in 12 months through a targeted digital campaign.'

    2. Prepare a portfolio of campaigns: Bring examples of ATL, BTL, and digital campaigns you led. Explain the objective, your role, the budget, and the measurable outcome. Show you can think across channels.

    3. Master the numbers: Expect questions on budget allocation, pricing, and profitability. Practice interpreting market research data and sales trends. Be ready to discuss how you'd adjust a plan if a product underperforms.

    4. Show stakeholder savvy: Brand managers work with sales, trade marketing, agencies, and retailers. Give examples of how you influenced cross-functional teams or managed agency relationships to deliver results.

    5. Know the FMCG landscape: Be ready to discuss current trends in Kenyan FMCG, such as e-commerce growth, changing consumer behavior, or local competition. Show you're commercially aware.

    6. Highlight innovation: Talk about a new product or a relaunch you contributed to. Explain the process from insight to launch and the outcome. Innovation is key in this role.

    7. Demonstrate leadership: Even if you didn't have direct reports, show how you led projects or influenced teams. Use examples of coordinating with creative, media, or research agencies.

    8. Prepare for case studies: Some interviews include a brand challenge. Practice structuring a response: situation, objective, strategy, tactics, and measurement. Think about how you'd allocate a limited budget across channels.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
