Show You Can Sell Insurance Through People, Not Just Policies

This role is about building a network of intermediaries who move General and Life insurance products. Hiring managers will look for proof you can recruit, train, and manage agents while hitting revenue targets across Retail, SME, Corporate, and Individual segments.

    1. Quantify your sales wins: On your CV, list specific numbers: premiums generated, percentage growth, number of intermediaries recruited, or renewal rates. For example, 'Grew a microfinance client portfolio by 30% in one year' is stronger than 'responsible for sales'.

    2. Show your intermediary management skills: Describe how you have recruited, trained, or supported agents or brokers. Mention any incentive schemes you ran or how you kept them motivated to meet targets.

    3. Prepare for the 'how you sell' question: Be ready to explain your approach to prospecting, pitching, and closing in insurance or financial services. Use a concrete example from your past, like a successful client acquisition or a tough negotiation.

    4. Highlight your regulatory awareness: Since the role mentions KYC and compliance, show you understand insurance regulations in Kenya. Mention any training or experience you have with policy administration, renewals, or endorsements.

    5. Emphasize your communication and negotiation skills: Give examples of how you have persuaded clients or stakeholders. For instance, describe a time you turned a hesitant client into a long-term customer.

    6. Show you are tech-savvy: The job requires MS Office proficiency. Be ready to discuss how you use Excel for pipeline tracking or PowerPoint for presentations. If you have used CRM software, mention that too.

    7. Understand the alternative distribution channel: This likely means selling through partners like SACCOS, microfinance banks, or agents. Show you know how these channels work and why they are important for insurance penetration.

    8. Prepare for a sales pitch: You may be asked to pitch a product or explain how you would approach a new market. Practice a clear, concise pitch for a General or Life insurance product, focusing on benefits to the client.
