Show You Can Sell Face-to-Face and Bounce Back from 'No'

Field sales roles live and die on your ability to start conversations, handle rejection, and still hit targets. Poa Internet's hiring team will be looking for evidence that you can hustle in the field, not just talk a good game in the interview.

    1. Lead with your sales results: On your CV, quantify your sales achievements if you have any—number of customers acquired, revenue brought in, or targets exceeded. If you're new to sales, highlight any role where you persuaded people, like retail, customer service, or even organizing events. Concrete numbers make your resilience and drive believable.

    2. Prepare a mini pitch for Poa's internet: Research Poa Internet's products and typical customers in Nairobi. Practice explaining the value of reliable, affordable internet to a landlord or small business owner in simple terms. In the interview, you might be asked to sell something—have a clear, confident structure ready.

    3. Show you understand the territory grind: Field sales means daily travel, door-to-door visits, and managing your own schedule. Talk about times you've been persistent—like following up with leads or handling a tough customer—and what you learned. Emphasize your comfort with being out in the field and your ability to plan routes and manage time.

    4. Demonstrate your objection-handling skills: Expect questions like, 'What do you say when a customer says it's too expensive?' Prepare a few responses that show you listen, empathize, and pivot to value. Practice with a friend or in front of a mirror to sound natural, not scripted.

    5. Highlight your learning agility: Poa invests in training, so show you're coachable. Give an example of a time you quickly picked up a new skill or product knowledge and applied it successfully. Mention any courses or certifications, even if they're not directly sales-related.

    6. Be ready to talk about targets: Sales roles are numbers-driven. If you've had targets in any job—even non-sales ones—share how you tracked your progress and stayed motivated. If not, explain how you set personal goals and achieve them, like fitness or academic targets.

    7. Show you're a team player: Field sales isn't just solo—you'll collaborate with your manager and other departments. Prepare a story about working with a team to solve a problem or achieve a shared goal. Highlight your communication skills and willingness to support others.

    8. Ask smart questions: At the end of the interview, ask about the typical sales cycle, what a successful trainee looks like after six months, or how the company supports field agents. This shows genuine interest and helps you decide if the role fits your strengths.
