Show Your Strategic Analysis Chops Before the Interview

This role sits at the intersection of data, strategy, and payments. Hiring managers will be looking for proof you can turn raw market data into crisp, executive-ready insights—so your application should already demonstrate that.

    1. Build a mini market snapshot: Pick an African payments market and prepare a one-page summary of its size, growth, key players, and regulatory trends. This shows you can synthesize information quickly and think commercially.

    2. Quantify your impact: On your CV, use numbers to show how your analysis improved decisions or processes. For example, 'Reduced reporting time by 30% by automating weekly sales dashboards' is far stronger than 'responsible for reporting'.

    3. Master the tools they use: You'll need intermediate PowerPoint and Excel, but aim higher. Practice building pivot tables, using XLOOKUP, and creating clean, executive-style slides. If you know Power BI or Tableau, highlight that.

    4. Prepare a case study: Be ready to walk through a time you analyzed a competitor or market trend and made a recommendation. Structure it with the situation, your analysis, the action you took, and the result.

    5. Show you understand the payments industry: Read up on mobile money, card schemes, and regulatory bodies like the Central Bank of Kenya. Mention trends like real-time payments or open banking in your cover letter or interview.

    6. Demonstrate project coordination: This role juggles multiple stakeholders. Give examples of how you've managed complex tasks across teams, met tight deadlines, and kept everyone aligned.

    7. Polish your communication: You'll present to senior leaders, so practice explaining complex data simply. Record yourself explaining a chart or model and refine until it's crisp and confident.

    8. Show you're data-driven: Emphasize your comfort with large datasets and your ability to spot trends. Mention any experience with SQL, Python, or data visualization tools—even if it's self-taught.
