Master the NTSA Test Route Before You Teach It
Driving instructors are judged by pass rates. The hiring team at AA Kenya will want to see that you know the NTSA test routes around Nairobi and can coach nervous learners through them.
1. Show your NTSA credentials clearly: On your CV, put your NTSA Accredited Instructor Training Certificate and Instructor License at the top, with license numbers and expiry dates. Hiring managers scan for these first.
2. Highlight your teaching experience: Even if it's not formal teaching, list any time you've trained drivers, mentored juniors, or conducted safety briefings. Quantify how many learners you've trained and your pass rate.
3. Prepare for a practical assessment: Expect to be asked to demonstrate a driving lesson. Practice explaining maneuvers clearly and calmly, as if to a beginner.
4. Know the NTSA rules inside out: Be ready to discuss the latest traffic laws, road signs, and test procedures. Show you can teach them accurately.
5. Emphasize customer service: Driving schools rely on referrals. Mention how you've handled anxious or difficult learners in the past, and how you keep lessons positive.
6. Be ready to work independently: The posting mentions working with minimum supervision. Give examples of times you've managed your own schedule or solved problems on the road without help.
7. Polish your communication skills: You'll need to explain complex actions in simple terms. Prepare a short, clear explanation of a basic driving skill (like parallel parking) to show your teaching style.
8. Check your own driving record: A clean driving record is non-negotiable. Be upfront about any minor issues and show how you've improved your driving since.
