    Master the School Procurement Cycle

This role lives or dies on your ability to navigate school budgets, procurement timelines, and decision-makers. Hiring managers will look for evidence you understand how schools buy books and how to build long-term relationships with administrators and teachers.

    1. Show you know the education sector: On your CV, highlight any experience selling to schools, bookshops, or distributors. Mention specific products you sold and the types of clients you dealt with. If you have examples of meeting sales targets in educational publishing or FMCG, put them front and center.

    2. Prepare a territory plan: Be ready to discuss how you would approach the Kisumu region. Map out potential school clusters, bookshops, and distributors. Show you have thought about travel logistics and how to maximize visits.

    3. Demonstrate relationship-building skills: Schools buy from people they trust. Give examples of how you have built and maintained strong client relationships in the past. Talk about how you follow up and keep customers engaged.

    4. Quantify your sales achievements: Use numbers to show your impact. For instance, 'Increased sales by 20% in my territory within six months' or 'Managed a portfolio of 50 schools.' This gives hiring managers concrete proof of your ability.

    5. Understand the product and market: Research the company's educational books and the Kenyan curriculum. Be ready to discuss how you would position their products against competitors. Show you know the local education landscape.

    6. Highlight your reporting skills: The role requires daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Mention your proficiency with CRM tools or Excel. Give an example of a report you prepared that helped drive decisions.

    7. Show willingness to travel: Emphasize your flexibility and readiness to travel extensively. If you have a valid driver's license or own a vehicle, mention it. This reassures them you can handle the field demands.

    8. Prepare for scenario questions: Expect questions like 'How would you convince a school to switch to our books?' or 'How do you handle a difficult client?' Practice clear, confident answers that show your sales acumen and problem-solving skills.
