    Job Description

HealthX Africa is seeking a Head of Growth to lead the expansion of its retail business in Kenya. This role involves managing field teams, building scalable market entry playbooks, and owning subscriber and revenue targets. The position requires close collaboration with product, underwriting, and claims teams to integrate field insights into product and process improvements.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead recruitment of Community Trust Agents market/boda leadership and Retail Footfall Agents against the phased roadmap — pilot, Nairobi scale, national scale.
    • Manage and grow the Brand Ambassador team who do the on-the-ground recruiting — site assignment, target-setting, coaching, and performance management.
    • Build repeatable playbooks for opening new markets, boda stages, and geographies as the network expands beyond Nairobi.
    • Own the subscriber and revenue numbers for the retail business — active subscribers, new sign-ups, and net revenue against the commercial case.
    • Monitor activation quality - 7-day payment conversion, customer complaints and quality of product communication.
    • Own the agent experience end-to-end including training materials, sign-up agreements, support channel, and claims-handling standards agents are customers' first point of contact.
    • Work closely with product, underwriting and claims team to feed field learnings back into product design, pricing, and process.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
    • A postgraduate qualification or professional sales/marketing certification is an added advantage.
    • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in sales, business development, distribution or growth, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing field sales, agent or distribution networks.

Scaling Field Teams: What Hiring Managers Probe

This role is about building and leading networks that drive subscriber growth. Expect deep questions on how you've recruited, trained, and managed field agents to hit targets in high-volume, low-margin environments.

    1. Quantify your network impact: Be ready to talk numbers: how many agents you've managed, territories you've opened, and the growth in subscribers or revenue you delivered. Use concrete metrics like active subscribers, conversion rates, or market share.

    2. Show your playbook mindset: Hiring managers want to see you can systematize success. Describe a playbook you built for entering a new market — from site selection to agent onboarding to performance tracking. Highlight how you made it repeatable.

    3. Prove your coaching skills: Field teams live or die by coaching. Give examples of how you've developed underperforming agents or ambassadors, using specific techniques like ride-alongs, target-setting, or feedback loops.

    4. Demonstrate cross-functional collaboration: This role works with product, underwriting, and claims. Prepare a story where you took field insights back to a central team and influenced product or process changes. Show you can translate frontline feedback into actionable improvements.

    5. Prepare for scenario questions: You may be asked how you'd launch a new market with limited resources. Think through a phased approach: pilot, scale, national. Discuss how you'd prioritize locations, set targets, and manage quality.

    6. Highlight your data fluency: You'll own subscriber and revenue numbers. Be ready to discuss how you track KPIs like 7-day payment conversion and customer complaints. Show you can use data to spot problems and adjust strategy.

    7. Emphasize agent experience: Since agents are the first point of contact, you need to show you care about their experience. Talk about how you've designed training, support, or incentives to keep agents motivated and effective.

    8. Tailor your CV to this role: Make sure your CV highlights leadership in field sales or distribution, with specific numbers and outcomes. Use keywords like 'agent network', 'field sales', 'business development', and 'growth' to pass ATS screens.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
