Show You Can Handle Real Data, Not Just Class Projects

This attachment is about hands-on exposure to research and data analytics. Hiring managers want to see that you can clean messy data, script questionnaires, and support IT tasks without constant hand-holding. Prove you're ready to contribute from day one.

    1. Polish your CV for data roles: Highlight any coursework, projects, or part-time work involving data cleaning, analysis, or IT support. Use numbers to show impact, like 'cleaned 10,000 rows of survey data' or 'built a dashboard in Excel for a class project'.

    2. Master the tools they listed: Be ready to demonstrate working knowledge of Excel and at least one of R, Python, SPSS, or Stata. Practice common tasks like pivot tables, data wrangling, and basic statistical tests. If you're rusty, do a quick refresher before the interview.

    3. Prepare for a practical test: Many research firms give a short data exercise during interviews. Expect to clean a small dataset, create a chart, or write a simple script. Practice with sample data to build speed and accuracy.

    4. Understand CAPI and field logistics: CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing) is common in research. Familiarize yourself with tools like SurveyCTO, ODK, or Kobo Toolbox. Mention any experience with questionnaire scripting or field data collection.

    5. Show you can communicate findings: Research reports require clear charts and tables. Practice presenting data visually and in writing. Be ready to explain how you'd structure a client report section.

    6. Emphasize your IT support skills: The role includes dashboard maintenance and IT tasks. Highlight any experience with system administration, troubleshooting, or dashboard tools like Power BI or Tableau. Even basic skills count.

    7. Bring your documents: Have your introduction letter and proof of medical cover ready. Make sure they are valid for the attachment period. Missing paperwork can delay your start.

    8. Show enthusiasm for learning: Attachments are about growth. Ask thoughtful questions about the team's projects and tools. Show you're eager to learn from experienced researchers and IT staff.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
