Master the Art of International Shipment Coordination

This role sits at the intersection of procurement and logistics, where a single delay can ripple across projects. Hiring managers will look for proof you can handle the pressure of cross-border timelines and keep costs in check.

    1. Show your Incoterms fluency: Be ready to explain how you've used Incoterms like FOB or CIF in past shipments. Give a concrete example of a tricky negotiation or a customs hiccup you resolved.

    2. Quantify your cost savings: On your CV, list specific numbers: how much you reduced freight costs, improved lead times, or optimized inventory levels. Numbers speak louder than adjectives.

    3. Highlight ERP proficiency: If you've used SAP, Oracle, or other ERP systems, mention them explicitly. Describe a time you used data from the system to make a procurement decision.

    4. Prepare for scenario questions: Expect questions like 'A shipment is stuck at customs, what do you do?' Walk through your step-by-step process: check documentation, contact the broker, communicate with stakeholders, and propose a contingency plan.

    5. Emphasize cross-cultural communication: International procurement means working with suppliers from different time zones and cultures. Share an example of how you built rapport with a foreign supplier or navigated a language barrier.

    6. Know the regulatory landscape: Brush up on Kenyan import/export regulations and common trade agreements. Mention any experience with customs documentation like the Single Administrative Document (SAD) or Kenya TradeNet.

    7. Show your analytical side: This role requires interpreting data to improve processes. Prepare to discuss how you've used Excel or BI tools to track KPIs like on-time delivery or supplier performance.

    8. Align with the company's mission: Solargen works in renewable energy, so show interest in sustainability and how efficient logistics support clean energy projects. Research their projects and mention how your skills can contribute.
