    Job Description

As an IT Operations Specialist, you will support the day-to-day operation of CloudFactory's infrastructure, networks, and SaaS applications, helping ensure systems remain available, secure, and well maintained. You will carry out routine maintenance, provide first-level support for communication and productivity tools, and contribute to disaster recovery and compliance activities, escalating complex issues to senior team members as needed. This is a great opportunity to build hands-on IT operations experience within a mission-driven, fast-scaling organization.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Carry out routine maintenance of physical data centre infrastructure, including servers, storage, and networking equipment.
    • Monitor environmental controls and network performance, escalating issues as needed.
    • Assist in managing domain renewals and certificate lifecycle tasks.
    • Perform basic DNS record configurations A, CNAME, MX under supervision.
    • Test new features in SaaS applications against defined test cases.
    • Provide first-level support for communication and productivity tools e.g., Gmail, Slack, resolving common user issues.
    • Assist in executing disaster recovery runbooks and participate in scheduled DR tests.
    • Escalate DR-related alerts and issues as required.
    • Follow established procedures and security standards, applying good comprehension of conformance to corporate policies and information security requirements.
    • Contribute creative thinking and new approaches to completing tasks within own work assignments.

    Required Qualifications

    • Technical knowledge: sound generic domain and specialist IT operations knowledge, typically gained from recognized bodies of knowledge, with an appreciation of the wider business context.
    • Communication skills: sufficient for effective engagement with colleagues and customers, using appropriate methods, tools, and processes.
    • Security and compliance awareness: fully aware of organizational standards for security, privacy, and ethics, and applies appropriate working practices in own work.
    • Problem-solving: applies a methodical approach to routine and moderately complex issue definition and resolution across a variety of environments.
    • Autonomy: works under general direction, exercising discretion in identifying and responding to complex issues within own assignments, and knows when to escalate.
    • Collaboration: interacts with and influences colleagues, and has working-level contact with customers, suppliers, and partners.
    • Continuous improvement mindset: contributes creative thinking and looks for new or better ways to complete tasks.
    • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • 3–4 years of experience in IT operations, infrastructure, or systems administration.
    • Experience with cloud platforms e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP.
    • IT certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Server+, or ITIL Foundation.
    • Exposure to administering SaaS applications, such as Google Workspace or Slack.

Show Your IT Operations Chops Before the Interview

This role is all about keeping systems running smoothly, so your CV needs to prove you can handle the day-to-day grind of IT ops. Hiring managers will look for hands-on experience with infrastructure, cloud, and SaaS tools, plus a methodical approach to problem-solving.

    1. Highlight your hands-on experience: Detail your specific experience with servers, networking, and storage. Use concrete examples like 'managed a fleet of 50 servers' or 'configured DNS records for 20 domains' to show you've done the work.

    2. Show your cloud skills: If you've worked with AWS, Azure, or GCP, list the specific services you've used (e.g., EC2, S3, Azure VMs). Mention any projects where you deployed or maintained cloud resources.

    3. Emphasize your SaaS admin experience: If you've administered Google Workspace or Slack, describe how you managed users, resolved issues, or rolled out features. This shows you can handle the productivity tools mentioned in the job.

    4. Prepare for DR scenarios: Be ready to discuss how you've participated in disaster recovery tests or runbooks. Talk about your role in ensuring data backup and recovery processes.

    5. Brush up on security basics: Since security awareness is key, review your knowledge of security standards and best practices. Be prepared to answer questions on how you follow security policies in your work.

    6. Get certified: If you don't have ITIL or CompTIA certifications, consider getting one to boost your profile. Mention any certifications you have or are pursuing.

    7. Practice problem-solving questions: Expect behavioral questions about how you've resolved complex IT issues. Use the STAR method to structure your answers, focusing on your methodical approach.

    8. Show your collaboration skills: This role involves working with colleagues and customers, so highlight times you've worked in a team or supported users. Give examples of how you've communicated technical issues to non-technical people.
