    Job Description

    The Navigation and Positioning Officer will be responsible for drafting and implementing policies, guidelines, and standards on navigation and positioning systems, as well as undertaking assessments and evaluations of national reference frameworks and positioning infrastructure. The role involves implementing initiatives such as search & rescue and disaster risk reduction through technical inputs and field data, and undertaking quality assurance processes on positioning services and products. The officer will also monitor application of navigation technologies, generate reports and proposals for revenue generation or strategic collaboration, and compile technical inputs for research and innovation in positioning systems.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Drafting and implementing policies, guidelines, and standards on navigation and positioning systems
    • Undertaking assessments and preliminary evaluations of national reference frameworks and positioning infrastructure
    • Implementing initiatives such as search & rescue and disaster risk reduction, through technical inputs and field data
    • Undertaking quality assurance processes and reporting on performance of positioning services and products
    • Monitoring application of navigation technologies and assisting in identifying areas for improvement or innovation
    • Generating basic reports and proposals for revenue generation or strategic collaboration
    • Compiling and organizing technical inputs for research and innovation in positioning systems

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Science, Geo-Spatial Engineering, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Control and Instrumentation, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
    • Proficiency in computer applications
    • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
