    Master the Customs Clearance Bottleneck

This role lives and dies by your ability to keep cargo moving through KRA and port processes without delays. Hiring managers will probe how you've handled compliance pressure, stakeholder friction, and operational hiccups in past roles.

    1. Show KRA and port fluency: On your CV, list specific customs systems you've used (e.g., Simba, iCMS) and concrete examples of clearing shipments under tight deadlines. Mention any experience with KPA, CFS, or shipping line coordination.

    2. Prove your leadership span: Quantify the size of teams you've managed and the scope of operations you've overseen. Use numbers: number of shipments per month, team size, cost savings achieved.

    3. Prepare a stakeholder war story: Have a story ready about resolving a customs dispute or a port delay. Explain the steps you took, who you engaged, and the outcome. This shows you can handle the pressure.

    4. Know the regulatory landscape: Brush up on current customs regulations, import/export documentation, and transit procedures. Be ready to discuss recent changes in Kenyan customs law.

    5. Highlight process improvement wins: Give examples of KPIs you've improved—reduced clearance times, lower demurrage costs, or better compliance rates. Show you can drive efficiency.

    6. Emphasize cost management: Talk about how you've balanced service quality with cost control. Mention any budgeting or cost-reduction initiatives you've led.

    7. Communicate with clarity: This role requires constant communication with clients, team members, and authorities. In your interview, be concise and structured in your answers, and show you can explain complex logistics issues simply.

    8. Research Reeds Africa Consult: Understand their client base and service areas. Tailor your answers to show how your experience aligns with their operations and values.
