    Job Description

The Production Manager will provide strategic and hands-on leadership across production, maintenance, engineering, utilities and technical operations within a high-volume beverage and plastics manufacturing environment. The role will be responsible for maximizing production efficiency, equipment reliability, product quality, cost control and team performance. This is a senior, hands-on, floor-present leadership role demanding deep technical mastery of automated Krones filling lines, PET preform and cap moulding operations, and the full spectrum of mechanical, electrical, automation, and quality systems.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead end-to-end production operations, including production planning, scheduling, line performance, material availability and production targets.
    • Drive production efficiency, equipment availability and waste reduction, targeting high operational performance and minimal unplanned downtime.
    • Oversee PET beverage production and plastics manufacturing, including preform and closure production.
    • Lead maintenance and engineering activities, ensuring preventive and predictive maintenance programs are effectively implemented.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, automation, pneumatic and production equipment issues.
    • Monitor production KPIs including efficiency, downtime, yield, wastage, quality and production plan adherence.
    • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, occupational health and safety standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
    • Manage production materials and inventory to minimize stock-outs, wastage and excess inventory.
    • Drive cost reduction, continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives across the plant.
    • Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary production and technical team, promoting accountability, skills development and a strong safety culture.
    • Support new product development, equipment commissioning, plant expansion and process improvement projects.
    • Prepare and review production, maintenance and operational performance reports for senior management.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or closely related field.
    • An MBA or specialisation in Supply Chain / Operations Management is a significant advantage.
    • 12-15+ years of total manufacturing experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior production leadership role in a Beverage and Plastics/Packaging plant.
    • Hands-on, proven experience operating and troubleshooting Krones filling and packaging lines Contiform, Modulfill, Checkmat, Linajet, or equivalent.
    • Direct operational experience on KraussMaffei and/or Netstal injection moulding machines for PET preforms and closures.
    • Strong working knowledge of Nitrogen-based Hot Fill PET juice processing - dissolved oxygen control, fill temperature, nitrogen dosing, and vacuum integrity.
    • Advanced proficiency in SAP PP, MM, PM modules and production data analytics within an ERP/MES-driven plant environment.

Show Your Floor Leadership and Krones Mastery

This role is for a hands-on leader who can troubleshoot a Krones line at 2 a.m. and still drive the weekly production review. Hiring managers will probe your technical depth, your people management style, and your ability to cut waste without cutting corners.

    1. Lead with your Krones track record: On your CV, list the specific Krones lines you've run (Contiform, Modulfill, Checkmat, Linajet) and the throughput or downtime improvements you achieved. Quantify results—e.g., 'reduced line downtime by 15%'—to show you measure what you manage.

    2. Prepare a maintenance strategy story: Be ready to explain how you've implemented preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Mention specific tools like CMMS or SAP PM and how you used data to schedule maintenance without hurting production targets.

    3. Show your SAP fluency: This plant runs on SAP PP, MM, PM. Walk through a scenario where you used SAP to plan a production run, manage materials, or trigger a work order. If you've used MES analytics, highlight that too.

    4. Prove your safety culture: Safety is non-negotiable in beverage plants. Share a concrete example of how you improved safety metrics or handled a near-miss. Emphasize that you see safety as a line responsibility, not a compliance checkbox.

    5. Talk about cost control: Production managers are judged on cost per unit. Discuss how you've reduced waste, energy, or overtime. Have numbers ready—like 'cut material wastage by 8%'—to show you think in shillings.

    6. Demonstrate people development: This role leads a multi-disciplinary team. Give an example of how you've mentored a technician or supervisor, and how you handle underperformance. Mention any training programs you've run.

    7. Know your hot-fill process: The posting mentions nitrogen-based hot-fill PET juice. Be ready to discuss dissolved oxygen control, fill temperature, and nitrogen dosing. If you've worked on juices or similar, highlight that; if not, show you understand the science.

    8. Ask sharp questions: In the interview, ask about the plant's current downtime, the age of the Krones lines, and the team structure. This shows you're already thinking like their next production manager.
