Show How You Turn Policy Into County-Level Impact

This role sits at the intersection of policy, community engagement, and project delivery. Hiring managers will be looking for evidence that you can manage multi-stakeholder programmes and translate national priorities into tangible county outcomes.

    1. Map your experience to the Fund's mandate: Before applying, study the National Government Affirmative Action Fund's objectives and recent programmes. In your cover letter, explicitly connect your past work to economic empowerment, civic education, or support for affirmative action groups. For example, if you've managed a bursary scheme, highlight how you ensured it reached the intended beneficiaries.

    2. Prove your stakeholder coordination skills: This role involves working with county governments, training providers, and other agencies. On your CV, list specific examples where you coordinated multiple stakeholders to deliver a project. Use the STAR method to describe a situation, task, action, and result, emphasizing your role in aligning diverse interests.

    3. Show your policy development know-how: You'll be expected to develop and review policies and guidelines. Prepare a portfolio or summary of any policy documents, manuals, or standard operating procedures you've created. Be ready to discuss how you ensure policies are practical and implementable at the county level.

    4. Highlight your project management toolkit: From work plans to budgets, you'll need to manage projects end-to-end. Mention any project management certifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) or tools you use (e.g., MS Project, Trello). Provide an example of a project you managed from proposal to completion, including how you tracked milestones and budgets.

    5. Prepare for competency-based questions: Expect questions like 'Tell me about a time you engaged with a difficult stakeholder' or 'Describe a project that didn't go as planned.' Practice your responses using the STAR format, focusing on your problem-solving and communication skills.

    6. Understand the county context: Since projects are county-based, show that you understand the devolved system of government in Kenya. Discuss how you would work with county officials and communities to identify projects that align with both national priorities and local needs.

    7. Demonstrate your commitment to civic education: This role includes conducting civic education and community sensitization. If you have experience in community outreach, training, or public speaking, highlight it. Prepare to discuss how you would design and deliver civic education programmes that are accessible and impactful.

    8. Be ready to discuss sensitive issues: The role involves working on issues like gender-based violence and child marriages. Show empathy and professionalism in your responses. If you have experience working with vulnerable groups, share it, and explain how you maintain confidentiality and sensitivity.
