Psychiatric Nurse

Provide professional and compassionate nursing services and high quality care to patients, by ensuring their review and treatment as per the Hospital protocols, and nursing standards and practices.

• Work with the Clinical team to navigate patients through the treatment journey, to help address underlying medical conditions, and provide treatment as per plan.
• Ensure all nursing protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines, recording and reporting all sentinel incidents/events within 24 hours using the provided tools.
• Constantly Monitor, assess and chart a patient's condition and response to treatment and medication, including the patients' physical and psycho-social status, and adjust treatment accordingly.
• Ensure proper and effective drug administration and management as per policy and procedures.
• Actively participate in patient admission, ward rounds, receive handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift, while ensuring all the relevant consultants have explained procedures and have obtained consent.
• Effectively manage patient data and records.
• Ensure patients safety following the 6 International Patient Safety Goals IPSGs.
• Supervise Patient Attendants as per their job description.
• Maintain and enforce infection control standards per policy, and observe the infection control bundles SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI where applicable.
• Organize emergency trolley for easy use during resuscitation, ensure drugs and supplies are well stocked, damaged equipment reported promptly, and a checklist kept and updated as needed.
• Ensure the unit is financially viable and demonstrate growth by managing costs and ensuring proper pre - authorization and documentation is done.
• Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies are adhered to, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and Implementing audit recommendations.
• Ensure adequate knowledge of and compliance to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially policies pertaining to the provision of medical services i.e. Admission & discharge, nurses' reports, equipment and supplies, etc.
• Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor.

• BScN or Diploma in Nursing.
• Higher Diploma in Nursing is an added advantage.
• A valid Nursing License from NCK.
• Valid certification in BLS, ACLS.
• 2+ years' experience working in a busy environment.
• Customer focus and results oriented.
• Strong interpersonal skills, team playing abilities, and communication skills.
• Highly responsive, ethical and responsible.
