Show You Can Run a Bar and a Team in a Remote Post

This role is about more than pouring drinks — it's about keeping a restaurant and bar running smoothly on a remote island with a multinational crew. Hiring managers will look for proof you can handle operations, lead people, and stay cool under pressure.

    1. Lead with your operational wins: On your CV, highlight specific numbers: how many covers you served, how much you cut costs, or how you improved turnaround times. For example, 'Reduced food waste by 15% through tighter inventory controls' shows you think like a manager, not just a shift lead.

    2. Prove your people skills: This job supervises a diverse team, so show you can train, schedule, and motivate staff from different backgrounds. Mention any experience with conflict resolution or building team morale — that's gold for a remote outpost where everyone lives close together.

    3. Know your food safety stuff: Be ready to talk about HACCP, sanitation, and health codes in the interview. If you have a food safety certification, put it on your CV. If not, brush up on the basics — they'll likely probe this hard.

    4. Show you can handle the books: Managing budgets, tracking sales, and controlling costs are core duties. Prepare a story about a time you hit a revenue target or tightened spending. Even a simple example like renegotiating a supplier contract shows financial sense.

    5. Get comfortable with remote work realities: This is an OCONUS role, so expect questions about adapting to isolation, limited resources, and a different culture. Talk about any previous remote or overseas experience, even if it's not in hospitality — it shows you can handle the environment.

    6. Polish your customer service stories: You'll handle complaints and feedback, so have a clear example of turning an unhappy customer into a regular. Focus on how you listened, solved the problem, and followed up — that's what they want to hear.

    7. Show you can plan events: The job includes promotions and events, so mention any themed nights, happy hours, or special dinners you've organized. Even a small event like a quiz night counts — it shows you can drive engagement and sales.

    8. Be ready for the practical checks: You'll need a valid passport, driver's license, and to pass medical checks. Make sure your documents are in order before applying, and be honest about any health issues that could affect deployment. It saves everyone time.
