Show You Can Run a Smooth Service Floor

Restaurant supervisor roles live and die on how you handle pressure, people, and processes. Hiring managers will be looking for proof you can keep service flowing, manage staff, and protect margins without losing the customer experience.

    1. Lead with your floor experience: On your CV, lead with your most recent supervisory role in a restaurant or hospitality setting. Quantify your impact: how many staff did you supervise, what was your section's daily covers, and what sales or stock targets did you own? Numbers make your supervision concrete.

    2. Show your F&B knowledge: Be ready to talk about menu knowledge, food costing, and beverage service standards. Mention any training in hygiene and safety (like HACCP) and how you've applied it. This signals you can protect the brand and the customer.

    3. Prepare a staff management story: Have a specific example of resolving a staff conflict or coaching a team member to improve performance. Use the STAR method: situation, task, action, result. This proves you can lead, not just supervise.

    4. Talk about cash and stock control: Expect questions on how you've handled cash ups, stock takes, and wastage. Have a clear example of catching a discrepancy or reducing waste. This shows you understand the financial side of the floor.

    5. Practice your customer complaint script: You'll likely face a role-play on handling an angry customer. Show you can listen, empathize, and offer a solution without giving away the house. Keep it calm and professional.

    6. Know your scheduling and flexibility: Restaurants run on weekends and holidays. Make it clear you're available for flexible shifts and can manage rotas. If you have experience with scheduling software, mention it.

    7. Dress and speak the part: This is a hospitality role, so presentation matters. Arrive polished, greet warmly, and maintain eye contact. Your communication skills are on trial from the moment you walk in.

    8. Ask smart questions: At the end, ask about the team size, the busiest service times, and how performance is measured. This shows you're thinking about the operational realities and are genuinely interested in the role.

CareerSasa Safety Alert: Never pay employers or agencies for interviews, training, or job placement. Does a job request payment? Report it immediately using the "Flag" button. While CareerSasa vets job postings thoroughly, always verify opportunities independently.
