Show Fleet Reliability on Paper Before You Walk Into the Workshop

This role is about keeping trucks and machinery moving, so your CV and interview answers must prove you can deliver uptime, not just describe it.

    1. Quantify your uptime record: In your CV and interview, give specific numbers for equipment uptime you achieved in past roles. For example, 'maintained 92% fleet uptime over two years' is far stronger than 'responsible for maintenance'. Hiring managers for this role will probe for measurable results.

    2. Show your diagnostic process: Be ready to walk through how you troubleshoot a common failure like a hydraulic leak or electrical fault. Describe the steps you take, the tools you use, and how you document findings. This demonstrates the systematic thinking they need.

    3. Highlight your leadership style: As a workshop supervisor, you'll manage a team of mechanics. Prepare examples of how you've mentored junior staff, resolved conflicts, or improved team productivity. Show that you can both fix trucks and build people.

    4. Know your compliance landscape: This role requires NTSA inspections and adherence to government standards. Brush up on Kenyan vehicle inspection requirements and be ready to discuss how you've ensured compliance in the past. Mention any certifications you hold.

    5. Prepare for budget questions: You'll be involved in budget tracking and procurement. Think about how you've controlled costs in previous roles, such as negotiating with suppliers or reducing downtime. Have a concrete example ready.

    6. Emphasize preventive maintenance: The posting stresses preventive schedules and long-term uptime. Explain how you design and enforce preventive maintenance plans, and how you balance them with reactive repairs. Show that you think ahead.

    7. Demonstrate your driving capability: You need a valid license and certification to drive trucks up to 10 wheelers. Make sure your CV lists your license class and any relevant certifications. Be prepared to discuss your driving experience.

    8. Show your documentation discipline: The role requires detailed maintenance logs and vehicle tracker updates. Give examples of how you've kept accurate records in the past, and why it matters for decision-making. This shows you're organized and reliable.
