Show You Can Run Operations Like a Business

This role is about keeping the engine room humming—fleet, property, vendors, and compliance. Hiring managers will probe how you've saved money, kept assets compliant, and led teams under pressure.

    1. Quantify your wins: On your CV, put numbers to your achievements—cost savings, fleet uptime, vendor renegotiations, or compliance audits passed. For example, "reduced fleet maintenance costs by 15% in one year."

    2. Prepare a capex story: Be ready to walk through a capex forecast you've built—how you prioritized, justified, and tracked it. Mention tools like Excel or ERP systems you've used.

    3. Show your supervisory style: Expect questions on how you've managed support staff. Have a concrete example of coaching, resolving conflict, or improving team performance.

    4. Know the legal landscape: Brush up on Kenyan regulations around vehicle licensing, property registration, and data protection. Mentioning specific compliance frameworks shows you're ready.

    5. Vendor management is key: Talk about how you've vetted vendors, negotiated terms, and maintained relationships. Highlight any due diligence processes you've implemented.

    6. Security planning matters: Even if not your core, show you understand security risk assessments and budget control. Give an example of a security improvement you've led.

    7. Communicate with clarity: This role demands overcommunication. Prepare to demonstrate how you keep stakeholders aligned—maybe through regular reports or meetings.

    8. Ask smart questions: In the interview, ask about the team size, current fleet condition, and biggest operational pain points. It shows you're already thinking like the officer.
