Master the Surgical Interview and Credentialing Process

This role sits in a county health system, so expect the panel to probe both your clinical judgment and your ability to work under resource constraints. They will want to see that you can handle emergency surgeries with limited backup and that you understand the local referral network.

    1. Polish your CV for surgical volume: List the number and types of surgeries you have performed independently, especially emergency procedures. Quantify your experience, e.g., 'performed over 200 appendectomies' to show hands-on capability.

    2. Prepare for clinical scenario questions: Expect questions on managing post-operative complications, trauma cases, and decision-making in resource-limited settings. Practice explaining your approach to a difficult case step by step.

    3. Know the county health system: Research Isiolo County's health facilities and common surgical cases in the region. Show that you understand the referral pathways and the challenges of rural surgery.

    4. Highlight your mentorship experience: Since you will supervise interns and medical officers, prepare examples of how you have taught or guided junior staff. Emphasize your ability to build a strong theatre team.

    5. Bring proof of your credentials: Have certified copies of your MMed, KMPDC recognition, and practicing license ready. Also, ensure your ID and chapter six compliance documents are in order.

    6. Show your commitment to quality and safety: Discuss how you have implemented infection control measures or quality improvement in theatre. Give a concrete example of a protocol you introduced or followed.

    7. Prepare for the on-call reality: Be ready to talk about how you handle stress and long hours. Share an experience where you managed a surgical emergency at night with limited resources.

    8. Ask smart questions: Inquire about the surgical volume, equipment availability, and support staff. This shows you are thinking practically about the role and the system you will work in.
