Master the Maternal Mortality Audit Conversation

This role sits at the sharp end of county health delivery, where your ability to run maternal death audits and mentor junior staff will be probed as hard as your surgical skill. Hiring panels for county specialist posts want to see you can turn clinical data into action, not just quote guidelines.

    1. Lead with your audit experience: In your CV and interview, highlight any maternal death audits or quality improvement projects you have led. Describe the process, your role, and the outcome. County boards value specialists who can identify systemic gaps and propose practical fixes.

    2. Show your surgical logbook: Be ready to discuss your experience with C-sections, hysterectomies, and myomectomies. Quantify your numbers where possible and mention any complex cases. This proves you can handle the theatre load at a county facility.

    3. Prepare for clinical scenario questions: Expect questions on managing obstetric emergencies like postpartum hemorrhage, eclampsia, and obstructed labor. Walk through your decision-making step by step, showing your ability to stay calm and act fast.

    4. Emphasize your mentoring style: You will supervise midwives, medical officers, and interns. Give concrete examples of how you have taught procedures, led drills, or provided constructive feedback. Show you can lift the whole team's skill level.

    5. Know the county context: Research Isiolo County's maternal health indicators and common challenges. Mention how your experience can help reduce maternal mortality in a semi-arid, resource-limited setting. This shows you are not just a clinician but a public health asset.

    6. Highlight your leadership in family planning: The posting asks for leadership in family planning and reproductive health education. Share any initiatives you have run, such as community outreach or training of health workers. This demonstrates your ability to drive public health priorities.

    7. Align with Chapter Six requirements: Be ready to provide the necessary documents and clearances. Mention your integrity and compliance with the constitution. This is a standard but critical part of the application for public service roles.

    8. Polish your application package: Your cover letter must clearly indicate the position applied for. Ensure your CV is detailed and up-to-date, and include all required certificates and IDs. Double-check that your application reaches the board by the deadline, either by post or hand delivery.
