    Job Description

    The Surveillance Officer will implement and review policies and strategies for space surveillance, monitor compliance with regulations and international agreements, and evaluate space activities and data. The role involves conducting assessments, generating compliance records, and coordinating capacity-building initiatives within the space surveillance sector.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implementing and reviewing policies, strategies, standards, and guidelines for space surveillance
    • Monitoring and evaluating space science and technology programs, ensuring compliance with regulations
    • Conducting initial assessments of non-compliance cases and preparing preliminary reports on findings
    • Monitoring compliance with international conventions, treaties, and agreements, reporting on discrepancies or issues
    • Evaluating space activities and data for compliance with relevant standards, codes, and specifications
    • Monitoring space-derived data, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and credibility of data used for decision-making
    • Undertaking environmental, health, safety, and quality standards compliance in space activities
    • Generating records for complaints or disputes between stakeholders, escalating complex cases as needed
    • Mapping non-compliant cases in space activities, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address issues
    • Contributing to the coordination of risk management processes related to space surveillance issues
    • Coordinating capacity-building initiatives and knowledge management within the space surveillance sector

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Science, Geo-Spatial Engineering, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Control and Instrumentation, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
    • Proficiency in computer applications
    • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
