Master the Switchboard: Prove You Can Handle Pressure and Precision

This role is the nerve center of communication for a mission-critical operation. Hiring managers will look for calm, precise operators who can manage high call volumes and follow strict protocols, especially in an austere environment.

    1. Highlight your switchboard and customer service experience: On your CV, detail your experience with telephone systems, call routing, and managing high call volumes. Use specific numbers, like calls handled per day, to show your capacity. If you have worked in a government or military setting, make that prominent.

    2. Show your ability to stay calm under pressure: Prepare examples of how you handled stressful situations, such as emergency calls or irate customers. Describe your process for prioritizing urgent calls and maintaining professionalism. This is a key trait for this role.

    3. Emphasize your technical proficiency: Even if you don't have formal IT training, highlight your familiarity with telecommunications equipment and office technology. Mention any troubleshooting you've done. This shows you can handle the technical aspects of the switchboard.

    4. Prepare for questions about international travel and security: Since the role requires a valid passport and ability to obtain visas, be ready to discuss your willingness and ability to travel. Also, be prepared to talk about your ability to obtain security credentials, as this is a contract requirement.

    5. Demonstrate your communication skills: This role is all about clear communication. In your application and interview, speak concisely and professionally. Provide examples of how you've effectively communicated with diverse groups of people.

    6. Understand the OCONUS environment: If you have experience working outside the continental US, highlight it. If not, show your adaptability and cultural awareness. This is a unique aspect of the job that sets it apart from a typical operator role.

    7. Show your multitasking abilities: Give concrete examples of how you've juggled multiple calls or tasks simultaneously. Explain your system for staying organized and accurate. This will reassure the hiring manager that you can handle the fast-paced environment.

    8. Research Amentum and the contract: Before applying, learn about Amentum's work and the specific contract this role supports. Tailor your application to show you understand the mission and are committed to supporting it. This will demonstrate your genuine interest and initiative.
